General Troubleshooting

Safety first. Electricity can kill. Never service a panel in bad weather. Wear appropriate PPE. Only qualified personnel should open the inner door.
Most EG panels have an inner door that protects operators from live equipment. From outside it, confirm that no breakers are tripped and no fault lights are on.
Sensory inspection
- Burnt odor
- Loud buzzing
- Visible damage
Find the cause of any failed check before replacing parts. Order replacement parts or request a drawing.
Power circuit
- Check that main breakers are not tripped.
- Measure incoming voltage; it should be within 2% of the panel rating.
- On three-phase panels, measure all phases.
If breakers are closed but voltage is out of range or a phase is missing, the fault is upstream of the panel. A voltage or phase monitor may be blocking operation to protect equipment.
Motor circuit
- Check breakers and motor starter protectors.
- On across-the-line starters, reset any tripped overload.
- On VFDs and soft starters, confirm power is on and no fault is shown.
If these check out, the fault may be in the control circuit.
Control circuit
- Check control breakers and fuses.
- Verify the control transformer secondary voltage.
- Verify power supply status LEDs and output voltage.
- Check for wires pulled from terminations and unseated relays.
